Das Übel Klaun (PRE-ORDER)
Das Übel Klaun: A Dual-Engine Audio Experiment
An HM-2 into a Klone? Are you effin' nuts? As Les Claypool says, "well, maybe."
It's pronounced like Clown not Clawn, I have a story about the nomenclature, but I'll tell that in an as yet to be posted YouTube video.
Also a reminder that this is a PRE-ORDER only (for now). Sorry for yelling.
The Visual Lore & The Wordless Enclosure
Look at the enclosure. There are no labels. There are no words. If you are here, you already know exactly what you are looking at.
I am, at my core, a storyteller and an artist. I’ve written dozens of screenplays, a novel, and a novella (not that anyone reads books anymore). This pedal is an extension of that narrative world. The artwork is a sick, Cronenberg-inspired nightmare—a twisted experiment gone completely sideways, morphing two separate clowns into a single, giant, grotesque head sharing two regular-sized bodies. It is sick in every sense of the word.
(A printed card with full control layouts is included inside the box, so you won't
get lost in the dark.)
The Knobs: Left Side (The Centaur Engine)
On the left, you get the unmistakable three-knob layout of the legendary Centaur circuit. Let’s not be whiny, pedantic internet Karens about the name—it’s the Klon architecture we all worship, built exactly to the original high-headroom specifications.
- Top: Drive
- Middle: Tone (Treble)
- Bottom: Volume
The Knobs: Right Side (The Chainsaw EQ Engine)
On the right, arranged top to bottom, are the four controls for the isolated Boss HM-2 active EQ section. The distortion circuit has been completely gutted, leaving only the mythical, devastating frequency-sculpting power of the original Swedish tone stack.
- Knob 1: Volume /
Output - Knob 2: High
- Knob 3: Mid
- Knob 4: Low
- Knob 1: Volume /
Also a reminder that this is a PRE-ORDER only. Sorry for yelling in bold. First shipments should be going out in early June 2026. Thank you.
The Sonic Reality: What is "Transparent Fuzz"?
This is an unconventional beast for my first commercial release, but it is a spectacular one. Mind you that though what I'm about to say is also true, part of that transparent fuzz is also because of the OPA2134 in the buffer section instead of the usual TL072 (you know, the magic that costs less to purchase, but whatever).
What happens when you strip the distortion out of a chainsaw? If you dime the four EQ controls on the right, you get a beautiful, haunting anomaly—a mild, background chainsaw grind that behaves almost like a "transparent" fuzz. When you slam that unique, mid-spiked "transparent fuzz" directly into the high-headroom Centaur circuit on the left, it becomes something absolutely
magnificent to behold. Roll back the volume knob on your guitar, and it cleans up beautifully into a rich, complex, articulate lead tone.
A Quick Warning
I’m a doom, post-metal, and noise bloke. When I eventually get the demo video uploaded for this, you will quickly notice that my lead guitar skills border on pathetic. I don’t do corporate shred videos. I build devastating audio art for people who want to push boundaries.
This is the first of many spectacular, crooked devices coming down the pipeline. Hit save, bookmark the shop, and keep an eye out. The nightmare is just beginning.
Who is this for? Well, you. Right? Okay, if not you then someone that appreciates artwork to go along with wacky circuits. Things that demolish your tone, but in a semi-transparent way. Remember, you can always roll back your volume back for some cleanup on your edge of breakup amp, or something with ear shattering headroom. This isn't really just for metal, I have intended to create something unique with beautifully effed up artwork. Enjoy.
All Pre-Orders will be shipped starting in early June. Earlier is possible. Thanks.
P.S. Check out the Das Böse Klaun in another listing.
